COUNTY CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION ONE ROUNDUP: A bold declaration from Kiran Carlson almost paid off at Sophia Gardens, while Nottinghamshire kept Somerset at bay
Cardiff (day four of four): Glamorgan 302 & 218-5d, Yorkshire 226 & 239-7 - match draw
Glamorgan and Yorkshire played out a pendulum-swinging draw in the opening game of the County Championship at Sophia Gardens.
A bold declaration before lunch from Kiran Carlson set Yorkshire 295 from 68 overs.
Yorkshire's strong start turned to defence as 125 for 1 turned to 174 for 5 with 21 overs left to force a result. The visitors finished 56 short of the target on 239 for 7, leaving Glamorgan to rue the 61 overs lost in the game on days one and two.
Adam Lyth scored a commanding 97 to continue his form from the last couple of seasons.
Mason Crane starred once again with 3 for 99 to follow his 5 for 55, and 51 with the bat, earlier in the match, along with overseas debutant Ryan Hadley, who gave Glamorgan late hope with 3 for 35.

Taunton (day four of four): Somerset 347 & 407-5d, Nottinghamshire 338 & 140-3 - match drawn
The Taunton pitch proved the only winner as Somerset and Nottinghamshire fought out a high-scoring draw on the final day of the County Championship First Division match at the Cooper Associates Ground.
James Rew staged a superbly judged knock of 122 from 184 balls, with 13 fours and 2 sixes, and Tom Kohler-Cadmore posted 104 - his fourth hundred in Somerset colours - as the home side declared their second innings on 407 for 5, setting the defending champions an unlikely victory target of 417 in a minimum of 60 overs.
Although Jack Leach and Alfie Ogborne claimed three wickets between them to at least make the game interesting for a while, a combination of a true pitch, fine overhead conditions and gritty resistance on the part of Nottinghamshire's top-order batters conspired to frustrate Somerset's bid to force a win.
Ben Slater top-scored with 60 and shared in a first-wicket stand of 90 with Haseeb Hameed, while Jack Haynes and Freddie McCann served up early-evening resistance thereafter as Nottinghamshire advanced to 140 for 3 in their second innings before the captains shook hands at 5.17pm with 15 overs unused, both sides taking 13 points apiece.
