Chester-le-Street (first day of four): Yorkshire 254, Durham 42-2 - Durham trail by 212 runs with eight first-innings wickets in hand

Durham's Matthew Potts continued his impressive campaign by taking four wickets to help bowl out Yorkshire for 254 on day one of their LV= Insurance County Championship clash at Seat Unique Riverside.

Yorkshire skipper Shan Masood, making his debut for the county, won the toss and elected to bat. But, Adam Lyth became Potts' first victim in just the second over.

The tone of the dismissal would sum up Yorkshire's day as batters routinely gave their wickets away as Masood, Dawid Malan and Jonny Bairstow failed to capitalise on starts.

Potts was the main beneficiary with figures of 4 for 49, while Ben Raine claimed three wickets to put Durham on the board with three bowling bonus points. Yorkshire struck back late in the day as Jordan Thompson and George Hill removed the home side's openers, reducing Durham to 42 for 2 at the close.

Derby (first day of four): Derbyshire v Gloucestershire

Gloucestershire suffered another wash-out with no play possible on the opening day of the County Championship Division Two match against Derbyshire at Derby.

The west country club has been blighted by bad weather this season and arrived at the Incora County Ground to find pools of surface water on the outfield after torrential rain in the area from early morning.

It was clear the prospects of any play were unlikely and although the umpires took lunch early at 12.30, the decision to call it off for the day was taken shortly after 1pm.

The abandonment means Gloucestershire have now lost nine entire days to rain so far in 2023.

Cardiff (first day of four): Worcestershire 109, Glamorgan 177-6 - Glamorgan lead by 68 runs with four first-innings wickets in hand

Michael Neser further stated his case for Australian selection this summer with a hugely impressive four-wicket haul for Glamorgan in their County Championship match against Worcestershire in Cardiff.

Neser, in partnership with Timm van der Gugten, ripped through the Worcestershire top order before James Harris claimed four wickets of his own as the visitors were bowled out for 109.

The Glamorgan top order also found batting challenging on a day where it swung and seamed throughout. They reached the close on 177 for 6 with runs from David Lloyd and Marnus Labuschagne the bright spot for the home side on a day when the bowlers were in charge.

Glamorgan are 68 runs in front on first innings with 16 wickets falling on day one. The lead is growing and unless this pitch flattens out as it has done in Cardiff this season in previous matches it could well prove to be a match-winning one.

Leicester (first day of four): Leicestershire v Sussex

Steve Smith's preparations for a busy summer of international cricket in England suffered the loss of another day's potential action as day one of Sussex's County Championship match against Leicestershire fell foul of a wet outfield.

Australia's No.1 batter is playing three red-ball matches for the south coast side as he warms up for the World Test Championship final against India at the Oval on June 7, followed by the Ashes series against England, which starts at Edgbaston on June 16.

To blame for the abandonment at Leicester, which came just after 4.30pm, were intermittent showers falling on a saturated outfield following heavy rain on Wednesday, when the Rachael Heyhoe Flint Trophy match between The Blaze and Western Storm had to be abandoned just past the halfway stage.
