Lord's (second day of four): Kent 186 & 40-2, Middlesex 229 - Kent trail by three runs with eight wickets remaining

Tim Murtagh dismissed England opener Zak Crawley for a golden duck and was on a hat-trick on a day of clattering wickets between Middlesex and Kent at Lord's.

Murtagh, who turns 42 in August, making him the third-oldest seamer in county cricket behind Gareth Berg and Michael Hogan, denied Crawley valuable batting time ahead of the first Ashes Test, causing him to fend a shortish ball into the hands of Stephen Eskinazi at slip.

The former Ireland international then pinned Daniel Bell-Drummond with the very next ball, forcing Jack Leaning to come out and defend the hat-trick ball.

Murtagh's spell ended at 2 for 9, before Leaning and Ben Compton nursed the visitors to 40 for 2, a deficit of just three when bad light ended play four overs early.

Edgbaston (second day of four): Warwickshire 150, Surrey 211-8 - Surrey lead by 61 runs with two wickets remaining

Surrey advanced into quiet control against Warwickshire on a gripping second day of their LV= Insurance County Championship match at Edgbaston.

After bowling out the home side for 150 (Dan Worrall 4 for 38, Kemar Roach 3 for 33) the champions closed on 211 for eight - 61 ahead - in reply.

Jamie Smith's compact unbeaten 57 has lifted his side into a position of strength on a pitch still offering some help to the seamers.
