Division One

Newport (second day of four): Hampshire 310 & 3-1, Nottinghamshire 239

Scorecard

Nottinghamshire all-rounder Steven Mullaney became the first player to score a first-class century on the Isle of Wight since Colin Ingleby-Mackenzie as he produced a rearguard innings to frustrate Hampshire at Newclose.

Skipper Mullaney dragged his side out of two collapses to reach an exceptional 14th first-class century, despite surviving three drops.

Legendary Hampshire talisman Ingleby-Mackenzie had been the last to top three figures on the Island in 1961, his 132 not out is the highest score on the Island.

Mullaney’s heroics handed Nottinghamshire a 71-run first innings deficit, which was increased to 74 by the end of the day.

Beckenham (second day of four): Surrey 439 & 11-0, Kent 294

Scorecard

Opening batsman Sean Dickson scored his ninth first-class century to help his side avoid the follow-on as Kent conceded a 145-run first innings lead after being dismissed for 294 in their Specsavers County Championship match with Surrey in Beckenham.

The 27-year-old South-Africa born player, who holds an English passport courtesy of his Kentish mother, dug in for five-and-a-half for 128 with 14 fours as the hosts conspired to lose their last nine wickets for 97 runs.

In the three overs through to stumps, Surrey reached 11 without loss in their second innings.

Taunton (first day of four): Somerset 209 & 164, Warwickshire 135, 103-6

Scorecard

Somerset looked on course to strengthen their position at the top of the Specsavers County Championship after more batting carnage on the second day against Warwickshire at Taunton.

Chasing 239 to win, the visitors were staring down the barrel on 103 for 6 at the close, with the pitch still offering plenty of assistance to the seamers. Sam Hain was unbeaten on 43.

Craig Overton had earlier finished with 5-31 when Warwickshire were bowled out in their first innings for 135.

His effort was then bettered by Liam Norwell, who claimed seven for 41 on debut in a Somerset second innings of 164 all out, to which Overton contributed 36 not out.

Division Two

Derby (third day of four): Derbyshire 378 & 171-9 v Glamorgan 346

Scorecard

Daniel Douthwaite inspired a Glamorgan fightback to set up an intriguing finale to the Division Two match against Derbyshire after Ravi Rampaul had celebrated his first five-wicket haul for three years.

The West Indian seamer claimed 5 for 94 as Glamorgan were bowled out for 346, 32 runs behind, with Billy Root scoring 68 and Douthwaite 39 in his first championship innings.

Derbyshire were going well at 96 for 1 but they lost seven wickets for 60 runs with Douthwaite taking four in five overs, and closed on 171 for 9, a lead of 203.

Chester-le-Street (second day of four): Durham 158 & 132, Gloucestershire 174 & 64-1

Scorecard

Gloucestershire are on the verge of securing their first Specsavers County Championship Division Two win of the season, requiring only another 53 runs with nine wickets in hand to beat Durham at Emirates Riverside.

The visitors were only able to 54 runs to their first-innings total on day two, although it was enough to hold a slender advantage as Chris Rushworth and Brydon Carse did the damage for the hosts. Durham put forward another poor effort with the bat after mustering only 158 in their first innings.

Cameron Bancroft top scored with 40, providing resistance with a patient knock. Outside of the skipper, familiar failings resulted in the home side being bowled out for 132. Openers Chris Dent and Miles Hammond knocked off over half of the 117 needed for the victory, leaving the visitors without touching distance of victory.

Old Trafford (second day of four): Worcestershire 172 & 149-9, Lancashire 201

Scorecard

Lancashire are on course for their third successive Specsavers County Championship win following another action-packed day at Emirates Old Trafford.

The Red Rose started this week second in Division Two, on the coattails of opponents and leaders Worcestershire, who had also won their first two matches.

The advantage has swung back and forth throughout two days which have seen ball dominate on a surface offering some help but not masses.

Now, the visitors have a lot of work to do if they are to swing the pendulum back in their favour, although they are not out of it just yet with a lead of 120 and one second-innings wicket in hand.

Northampton (second day of four): Sussex 422 v Northamptonshire 242-6

Scorecard

Sussex produced a run of wickets either side of tea to take control of the match at Northamptonshire. The home side were cursing at 143 for 1 replying to 422 but slipped to 186 for 5 before closing the second day 242 for 6.

The visitors resumed on 370 for 6 and claimed maximum batting points before taking 4-43 mid-afternoon to raise hopes of a healthy first-innings lead.
