Bristol (day three of four): Gloucestershire 325 & 251-9, Kent 327 - Gloucestershire lead by 249 runs with one wicket remaining

Cameron Bancroft produced a gritty captain's innings to keep Gloucestershire in the game on the third day of the County Championship Division Two match with Kent in Bristol.

The visitors added 19 to their overnight first innings total of 308 for 8 to grab a slender first innings lead of two runs. Chris Benjamin fell without extending his innings of 74, while Will Williams finished with 4 for 48 from 24 overs.

Gloucestershire then slipped to 112 for 4 in their second innings. But opener Bancroft battled away in bowler-friendly conditions to score 83 off 195 balls and lead his side to 251 for 9 by the time bad light ended play six overs early.

There were three wickets each for James Taylor and Ekansh Singh, but with the pitch still assisting the seamers, a final day target of at least 250 will be a test.

Derby (day three of four): Derbyshire 604-7d, Northamptonshire 228 & 66-2 - Northamptonshire trail by 310 runs with eight wickets remaining

Ben Aitchison returned his best first-class figures since July 2022 to keep Derbyshire firmly in control of the County Championship Division Two match against Northamptonshire at the County Ground.

The seamer, who missed all of the 2024 season with a back injury, took 4 for 55 as the visitors were bowled out for 228 with Rory Haydon taking three wickets and England spinner Shoaib Bashir two.

Calvin Harrison scored a defiant 107 and shared a seventh-wicket stand of 105 from 230 balls with Lewis McManus, but his side were forced to follow on.

They closed at Derby on 66 for 2, still 310 runs behind, after Bashir bowled Ricardo Vasconcelos just before the end of day three.
