Weatherald's incredible century hands Big Bash title to Adelaide Strikers

Jake Weatherald clubbed an astonishing 115 from just 70 balls as Adelaide beat Hobart Hurricanes to win the BBL

It was the Jake Weatherald show at the Adelaide Oval as the Strikers opener laid the perfect platform for a comfortable victory which brought his side the Big Bash crown.

Weatherald, who made a quick half-century in the semi-final against Melbourne Renegades just days earlier, blitzed Hobart Hurricanes' in-form bowling attack for a remarkable century to put down the foundations for the Strikers' imposing first-innings total of 202 for five.

And it proved to be several steps beyond Hobart, even with D'Arcy Short at the top of their batting order and firing, as the Tasmanians fell 25 runs short.

For Weatherald, quite rightly named the player of the match at the end of proceedings, it was a sensational evening in South Australia.

Hitting eight sixes and nine fours, he was finally dismissed for 115 from 70 balls with 10 balls of the innings remaining and with the all-time competition high score - made by Short earlier this year - well within sight.

As it was, he had to settle for third on that list, having been caught by George Bailey off the bowling of Dan Christian, but the damage was well and truly done.

Travis Head finished unbeaten on 43, while he and Colin Ingram took Hobart for 21 from those final 10 deliveries to lift Adelaide over 200.

In reply, Tim Paine went cheaply but Short and Bailey combined to give the Hurricanes hope, taking them to 87 before Bailey was dismissed by Peter Siddle.

There was still an outside chance of victory with four overs remaining and Short still at the wicket, albeit with the required run rate climbing dramatically.

However, when Siddle struck again, getting the Australia international caught behind by Alex Carey for 68, that was well and truly that.

Christian's late lusty blows couldn't get Hobart close and their chase came to an end on 177 for five.
