Abbott struck in the second over to remove Alex Hales for a golden duck while Matthew Gilkes (pinned lbw by Todd Murphy) and Oliver Davies (Abbott's second victim) also fell inside the powerplay.

A 64-run partnership between Alex Ross (34) and Sam Whiteman (42) steadied the ship but following the latter's departure in the 13th over, Thunder's momentum was killed by the tumbling of regular wickets.

Only a late smash and grab 26 (15) from Ben Cutting ensured they reached a somewhat competitive total.

In reply, Sydney Sixers also lost three early wickets, with Josh Philippe, James Vince and Kurtis Patterson departing in the opening four overs: 25 for 3.

Captain Moises Henriques and Jordan Silk, however, ensured their would be no more hiccups en route to victory, with both players scoring unbeaten half-centuries to see their side home in the 17th over.

Henriques scored 53 runs off 38 balls while Silk finished on 59 not out (42).

Chris Green (2 for 29) and Brendan Doggett (1 for 23) were the wicket-takers for Thunder, who sit fourth in the table.
