The captain scores a second consecutive fifty to inspire victory over Hobart Hurricanes
Launceston: Sydney Sixers 144-9, Hobart Hurricanes 130-8 - Sydney Sixers win by 14 runs
Sydney Sixers made it two wins from two to start the Big Bash after victory over Hobart Hurricanes in a low-scoring affair in Launceston.
Responding to Sydney's 144, over half of which were scored by Moises Henriques, Hurricanes were always behind the rate, with English seam duo Tom Curran and Chris Jordan leading a miserly bowling performance.
Curran took 3 for 27 from four overs, including the scalp of compatriot Jordan Cox for 10, while Jordan finished with 1 for 20 from four overs.
That the visitors had a defendable score was down to captain Henriques, who hit a superb 73 off 48 balls, featuring six fours and two sixes, to rescue his side from 63 for 5 after 12 overs.
Curran chipped in with 27 while James Vince, the third Englishman in the Sixers team, was the only other player to reach double figures in the innings with 13.

Thomas Rogers took an impressive 3 for 28 for Hurricanes and received support from fellow paceman Nathan Ellis, who took 2 for 34, and leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane, who finished with 1 for 24.
Chasing a very achievable target, Hobart could afford to start slowly and only hit three boundaries in the first ten overs, as Hayden Kerr and Benjamin Manenti bowled economically. They reached the halfway stage at 50 for 2, with D’Arcy Short’s 36-ball 21 epitomising their conservative approach.
However, a wicket in each of the 12th, 13th and 14th overs reduced them to 78 for 5, a sequence that included BBL debutant Tom Lammonby being dismissed for a duck, before a 40-run stand between Peter Handscomb and Cox then gave the hosts hope, as they needed 27 off 16 balls when Cox was dismissed.
Yet, an excellent 19th over from Jordan went for only three runs, meaning Hurricanes required 20 off Curran’s final six deliveries.
The 26-year-old took two wickets, including Handscomb for 47, and went for five runs to give Sixers consecutive victories and consign Hurricanes to an opening game defeat.
