Nepal's impressive young talent, Sandeep Lamichhane will represent Melbourne Stars in this year's Big Bash in Australia.

The 18-year-old spinner will join the Melbourne side for the start of the season before swapping Australia for Bangladesh where he will play for Sylhet Sixers from January 5.

Lamichhane's Bangladesh Premier League commitments will allow him to return to Melbourne in time for the BBL Finals.

Lamichhane already has plenty of T20 experience under his belt, having turned out for Delhi Daredevils (IPL), Kowloon Cantons (Hong Kong), St Kitts & Nevis Patriots (CPL), Lalitpur Patriots (Nepal), Montreal Tigers (Canada) and Nangarhar Leopards in the Afghanistan Premier League.

In Lamichhane's absence, Lancashire's Matt Parkinson will fill the void.

Melbourne Stars list manager, Trent Woodhill, said: “I first saw Sandeep bowl for Nepal in the Asian U19 Championships in Malaysia and was immediately impressed by both his skill as a wrist spinner and also his energy.

"I watched Matt bowl for Lancashire in the Vitality Blast this season where he helped them reach the semi finals with some dominant performances.

"Lamichhane had a successful IPL debut for Delhi and bowled well in the CPL. We have high expectations that he will light up the BBL and become a star of the tournament."

Parkinson took 25 wickets in this year's Vitaity Blast

“I am delighted to be joining the Stars, it has always been a dream to play on the MCG. I am very excited to join the team,” said Lamichhane.

Parkinson - who claimed 25 wickets in this year's Vitaity Blast - said: “I am hugely excited to have signed for the Melbourne Stars. It’s one of the biggest T20 competitions in the world and I can’t wait to get over there and meet the rest of the squad.

“It’s a competition I have watched and admired for a long time and one that I’ve always wanted to play in. To have the chance to play for the Stars at the Melbourne Cricket Ground would be a dream come true.

“Whilst I’ve been really pleased with my T20 form over the last couple of years, I still have a lot to learn with the white ball and this will be another fantastic opportunity for me to develop my game, learn from some of the best players in the world and challenge myself in-front of some really big crowds.”
