Rashid Khan and Haris Rauf illuminated the Big Bash League by taking successive hat-tricks on the same day for the first time in the competition's history.

Afghanistan spinner Rashid took his third T20 treble after dismissing James Vince, Jack Edwards and Jordan Silk for Adelaide Strikers.

He would finish with figures of 4-22 from his four overs but it was not enough to deny opponents Sydney Sixers victory by two wickets.

Rashid joins an illustrious group including Amit Mishra, Andrew Russell, Andrew Tye and Mohammad Shami to have taken three hat-tricks in the 20-over game.

The fifth treble in T20 BBL history was quickly followed by the sixth as Rauf ripped through Sydney Thunder to help Melbourne Stars to victory by six wickets at the MCG.

Matthew Gilkes and Callum Ferguson were both toppled before Daniel Sams was trapped lbw, to spark scenes of wild jubilation.

The Pakistani seamer has endured a curious BBL, making just four outings having three times been called upon as an injury replacement by Stars.

Rauf has more than responded when called upon, however, taking 13 scalps at an eye-watering 7.23, including the best figures of the tournament so far against Hobart Hurricanes.

ESPNCricinfo report that T20 hat-tricks have occurred on the same day on at least six other occasions, including in the T20 Blast last summer when Matthew Potts and Toby Roland-Jones achieved the feat for Durham and Middlesex, respectively, on July 26.
