Scorecard

Perth Scorchers blew Melbourne Stars away with the bat en route to a 61-run win in Melbourne.

The Scorchers, led by Josh Inglis and Faf du Plessis, posted 229 for 7 - the highest score of BBL12 to date.

It is the defending champions' second victory of the tournament and moves them up to third in the standings, as well as improving their net run rate to 1.517.

Du Plessis got the magic going for the Scorchers, smashing 68 runs from just 33 balls before being dismissed by Luke Wood in the 10th over.

Nick Hobson continued the fireworks with an explosive 46 off 26 before the show was stolen by Inglis. Batting at No.4, he smashed five fours and six sixes on his way to 74 runs from just 33 balls.

Aaron Hardie also chipped in with 30 runs off 17 balls, including an 84-run fifth-wicket partnership with Inglis off just 37 balls.

Wood picked up three wickets in the final four balls of the innings, finishing with 5 for 50, but it was scant consolation for the Stars.

In reply, the home side struggled to get going with Joe Clake and Tom Rogers both departing inside the powerplay against the bowling of Jason Behrendorff (3 for 32).

Beau Webster showed some resistance, striking 43 runs from 32 balls, while Nick Larkin scored 34 from 24 balls, but as the required rate continued to climb, the Stars' chase fizzled out.

Alongside Behrendorff, Peter Hatzoglou picked up 2 for 28 while Jhye Richardson, Ashton Agar and AJ Tye shared the remaining three wickets to fall.
