Will Sutherland and Kane Richardson produce heroics at the death as Stars grab defeat from the jaws of victory at Marvel Stadium
Melbourne: Melbourne Renegades 162-7, Melbourne Stars 156-7 - Melbourne Renegades won by six runs
An inspired display of death bowling from Will Sutherland and Kane Richardson ensured Melbourne Renegades did the double over city rivals Melbourne Stars to enhance their Big Bash League playoff hopes.
Stars at one stage needed 21 off 25 balls for victory but only found the boundary once in the next four overs.
Despite a squeeze on the scoring, a six off the final ball would have delivered a super over but Nick Larkin failed to connect with a full yorker from Sutherland who conceded just five off the final set.
Player of the match Richardson had earlier produced figures of 2 for 17 with 15 dots balls before Sutherland, Tom Rogers and Fawad Ahmed returned to wrap up victory.

Renegades looked in decent shape after making 162 for 7 from their 20 overs.
Sam Harper struck 51 and Jonathan Wells produced a typically punchy middle-order knock of 44 off 24 balls.
Stars quickly took control in the chase, Joe Clarke hitting 59 - one of his five sixes was awarded when the ball struck the Marvel Stadium roof - and Tom Rogers adding 27.
They were within touching distance of victory, on 142 for 3 in the 16th over but the dismissal of Beau Webster (29) triggered an incredible finale.

James Seymour (3), Clint Hinchcliffe (1) and Luke Wood (1) were all dismissed as the Stars' scoring rate collapsed.
Twelve were needed off the final over and Sutherland produced the perfect repost, dismissing Wood and shipping just a single run from the first four deliveries.
Larkin found the rope off the next ball but it was too little, too late as another Sutherland yorker confirmed a remarkable victory.
The result sees Renegades climb into third, taking advantage of Adelaide Strikers' defeat to Brisbane Heat, while Stars remain bottom of the pile with their playoff hopes beginning to fade.
