Sydney Sixers have secured the return of Kurtis Patterson on a three-year deal ahead of the new Big Bash League season.

The 29-year-old, born in Hurstville, New South Wales, played a single game for Sixers during the 2012-13 campaign.

He then spent five terms at Sydney Thunder, who won their maiden BBL title in 2015-16.

Patterson played three seasons at Perth Scorchers and had a major role in their fourth title success last season, top-scoring with 391 runs at 30.07.

Capped twice by Australia at Test level, Patterson joins a Sixers batting line-up that includes Josh Philippe and captain Moises Henriques.

"It kind of feels like I am coming home to be honest," Patterson said.

"Not a lot of people actually know, but I actually played one game for the Sixers back in BBL|02, scored four off two coming in at six in the last couple of overs of the game.

"It's just another good opportunity for me to join another really strong club.

"I feel really lucky obviously, coming from Perth and going to the Sixers, who are arguably the two most successful BBL clubs in its history.

"I'm really excited to have Christmas at home and to be able to play cricket with guys that I play all year round with (at NSW)."

Sixers kick off their campaign against Adelaide Strikers on December 14 before a meeting with the reigning champions and Patterson's former side Scorchers three days later.
