Cockbain, who plays in the English county system for Gloucestershire, comes into the Strikers' group following the departure of Rashid Khan on international duty.
The top-order batsman will be available for selection for the game against Perth Scorchers at the Adelaide Oval on Friday.

He has made 135 appearances in T20 cricket, accumulating 3,395 runs at a strike rate above 131.
Last summer, he was part of the Welsh Fire squad in the inaugural running of The Hundred.
Strikers sit bottom of the Big Bash table with 13 points, despite winning two of their past three matches.
