Hobart Hurricanes are in the Big Bash final

Hobart Hurricanes have reached the Big Bash final following a convincing, 71-run victory over Perth Scorchers at Optus Stadium.

Having made a mammoth 210 for four in their 20 overs - the first time Perth have conceded 200 or more in any edition of the competition - Hobart eased to a comfortable win as the Scorchers only managed 139 in reply.

Matthew Wade laid the platform for the away side with a tone-setting 71 from 45 balls at the top of the innings.

Having lost partner Tim Paine cheaply, Wade bullied the Perth bowling all over Western Australia's sparkling new stadium, hitting 10 fours and a six before he was caught by Matthew Kelly off the bowling of Tim Bresnan.

By then, however, Hobart had a sizeable platform from which to push on towards the third-highest BBL total ever.

Ben McDermott was in sizzling form towards the back-end of the innings, cracking four boundaries and six towering shots into the crowd as he fired his way to 67 from the 30 balls.

With the assistance of Dan Christian, who made 37 from 22 balls, the Hurricanes added 87 in their final six overs.

Perth never got close in reply.

Though Shaun Marsh made 30 and Bresnan 43, no one else managed to get beyond 16 and the run of scores from No.3 to No.7 - one, three, two, four and three - summed up how tepid their challenge really was.

The defending champions were eliminated after suffering their worst defeat, in terms of runs, in their Big Bash existence.

The Hurricanes will now face either Adelaide Strikers or Melbourne Renegades in Sunday's final.
