Sydney: Hobart Hurricanes 213-2, Sydney Sixers 151-4 - Hobart Hurricanes won by 44 runs (DLS method)

Sydney Sixers were given a thump back to earth after Hobart Hurricanes clinching a 44-run victory in a rain-affected clash.

Matthew Wade's 93, D'Acry Short's unbeaten 73 and 42 from Caleb Jewell drove the Hurricanes to their third-highest BBL total.

There were some damaging figures for the Sixers attack, with Chris Jordan returning 1 for 51, Tom Curran 1 for 46 (three overs) and Sean Abbot 0 for 42.

Despite that onslaught, the Sixers started well in the chase, reaching 42 without loss when the rain came after 4.3 overs.

The defending champions were set an adjusted target of 196 from 18 overs but crucially saw the power surge cut in half.

Despite getting rid of Vince, Hurricanes were failing to take advantage of their position of authority with Moises Henrique being put down twice in the 10th over.

Josh Philippe remained a threat and hit sixes in consecutive overs, including as part of a nine-ball Nathan Ellis over. Hurricanes continued to give their opponents second lives, with two more chances passed up in the 13th.

First Sandeep Lamichhane missed the stumps and almost ran-out Philippe, who then survived a stumping chance for Wade.

Two more boundaries followed before Joel Paris returned to take the game away from the Sixers.

Philippe was dismissed via a catch at long-on, before Dan Christian was bowled trying in vain to keep the chase alive.

Ellis put the cherry on top of a fortuitous victory by getting Daniel Hughes (2) as Hurricanes made up for their defeat to Sixers in their opening game of the tournament.
