Perth Scorchers needed 36 off 30 to secure back-t0-back victories but four wickets for Dooley, 1 for 22 for Shadab and some super death bowling from Nathan Ellis secured
Launceston: Hobart Hurricanes 172-8, Perth Scorchers 164-8 - Hobart Hurricanes won by eight runs
Patrick Dooley claimed a career-best 4 for 16 as Hobart Hurricanes produced a fine display of death bowling to get off the mark in the Big Bash League against defending champions Perth Scorchers.
The Scorchers required 36 from 30 deliveries with six wickets in hand but their killer instinct evaded them.
Josh Inglis struck 62 but his departure at the start of the 16th over sparked a mini-collapse.
Ashton Agar (0), Aaron Hardie (12) and Jhye Richardson (13) were dismissed as they lost four wickets for 27 runs in five overs, to lose out by eight runs.
Hurricanes had spinner Dooley, playing in just his third senior T20, to thank after his figures of 4 for 16, which included just a single boundary and 14 dot balls.

Shadab Khan was similarly frugal, returning 1 for 22 from his allocation while Nathan Ellis shipped just 16 runs from the 18th and 20th overs to secure the victory.
Earlier, the Hurricanes laid the foundations for victory after making 172 for 8 from their 20 overs.
Matthew Wade (51) and D'Arcy Short (35) made 66 for the second wicket before Tim David arrived with a typically punchy knock in the closing overs.
The Singapore-Australian finished 48 not out, but his late siege off Jason Behrendorff and Andrew Tye proved crucial, hitting 21 off his final nine deliveries.
The result leaves both sides with a victory and a defeat from their opening two games. Hurricanes are next in action against Sydney Sixers on Thursday (December 22), before Scorchers return against Melbourne Stars on Friday (December 23).
