Hobart: Hobart Hurricanes 122, Melbourne Renegades 114 - Hobart Hurricanes won by eight runs

Scorecard

Hobart Hurricanes sparkled with the ball again to end Melbourne Renegades' 100 per cent winning record in the Big Bash League.

Hurricanes were without captain Matthew Wade after he was suspended for one match after incurring a suspension point following a third level one code of conduct breach in the last 18 months.

And they looked to be on the back foot when Renegades dismissed them for just 122 in 18 overs as Akeal Hosein (3 for 29) and David Moody (3 for 16) ran riot.

Renegades were chasing a fourth victory in a row but were three wickets down inside three overs.

They were reduced to 55 for 6 when Jonathan Wells (26) followed Aaron Finch (13) and Andre Russell (2) back to the dugout.

Will Sutherland appeared to give Renegades hope with two fours and a six in from the 17th over, leaving 28 needed from 18 balls.

Shadab dismissed Mujeeb ur Rahman (3) to leave Hurricanes one wicket from victory, but Sutherland lashed a six over long-on to set up a fascinating final over when 11 was required for victory.

But Sutherland (40) picked out Jimmy Neesham via the second delivery of Joel Paris' final over as Hurricanes pulled a win out of the fire.

The result leaves Renegades second in the table with three wins from four, while Hurricanes are two places back on four points from as many games.

Renegades are back in action on December 30 against Sydney Sixers, while Sydney Thunder take on Hurricanes in the penultimate BBL matches of 2022 on New Years' Eve.
