Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana to play in Women's Big Bash

Kaur has rejoined the Sydney Thunder, who she also played for in the 2016/17 season, while Mandhana has joined the Hobart Hurricanes

India batters Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana are set to play in the 2018/19 season of the Women's Big Bash.

Kaur has rejoined the Sydney Thunder, who she also featured for in the 2016/17 season, while Mandhana has joined the Hobart Hurricanes.

Kaur captained India at the ICC Women's World T20, where they lost in the semi-final to England and was the first female Indian cricketer to sign for a foreign franchise when she first joined the Thunder in 2016.

She scored 296 runs at 59.20 as the Thunder finished sixth and failed to make the playoffs.

Mandhana also featured in the 2016/17 Women's Big Bash season, and was a part of the Brisbane Heat team which made the semi-final, but lost out to the Perth Scorchers.

Despite enjoying a modest first season where she scored 89 runs across 10 innings at an average of 11.12, the India T20 vice-captain looks set to improve on that after finishing as India's leading run-scorer a the Women's World T20.

“I've heard from many players that the Hurricanes group is a great squad to be around and I can't wait to get to Tasmania for the matches,” she said.

Hurricanes’ coach Salliann Briggs added: "Mandhana is a proven performer on the world stage, we saw that just last week with her knock against the Aussies. I can't wait to see her in purple, she's an exciting addition not only for us but for the whole competition.”
