The 28-year-old seamer has now taken three domestic hat-tricks in Australia - the first man to do so - but he did not clock the achievement until he did his post-innings media duties
Gurinder Sandhu did not realise he had taken a Big Bash hat-trick when he completed the feat for Sydney Thunder on Thursday.
Sandhu removed Perth Scorchers batsman Colin Munro with the final ball of the 12th over, caught at cover, before taking the wickets of Aaron Hardie and Laurie Evans with the first two deliveries of his next set of six.

"I had absolutely no idea, which is kind of a good thing because then maybe I would have tried too hard on that ball or changed up what I was doing," Sandhu told AAP.

"As I walked off, I chatted to Erin Holland from Channel 7 and she said, 'well done, the first Sydney Thunder player to get a hat-trick'.
"I actually thought in my mind that she stuffed up, but I was the one who had it wrong.
"I was surprised, because I had no idea. I've already had one this year, so I was like, 'there's no chance anybody can get two in a year, let alone in a career'.
"It's pretty cool. It's something when I finish playing, I'll look back on and go, 'wow'."
Sandhu was not alone in his blindness to what had just happened, as it transpired the Thunder dugout were also none the wiser.

"We didn't know either," coach Trevor Bayliss said on Fox Cricket.
"I think in T20 cricket everyone's just concentrating on (conceding) no runs and the game moves pretty quickly, and I think it's happened a few times where that passes the bowlers by."
Sandhu's other domestic hat-tricks came in the one-day final against Victoria in 2018 and the March Cup, against South Australia, last year.
Players with two hat-tricks in Australian domestic competitions include Mitchell Starc, Doug Bollinger and AJ Tye.
