With 38mm edges and a weight of 2lb 9oz, this has something for everyone: neither too heavy nor too light, with a fairly central middle and a decent distribution of weight throughout

The Prophecy is an unusual bat, with an understated design that verges towards corporate but has developed and livened up for 2023.

Tester Nick recognised that shift immediately.

"It's a vast improvement on previous years' designs," he said. "As for the bat itself, I really enjoyed its pickup. It's like Mark Pougatch – you might not remember his face, but he's extremely professional and gets the job done."

James agreed: "It's a little square, but it has a nice pick up and feels very light."

Indeed, Georgia Adams – the Southern Vipers opener – gave it full marks for both its pickup and performance.

With 38mm edges and a weight of 2lb 9oz, this has something for everyone: neither too heavy nor too light, with a fairly central middle and a decent distribution of weight throughout the blade suitable for all-round stroke-makers.

As Guy said: "It just went really well, even when I didn't get it quite out of the sweet spot."

At £320, it's a mid-range option for a club cricketer on the lookout for a young brand, producing hand-crafted bats from homegrown English willow.
