Bat review: Prophecy Omen

The Omen only comes in at 2lb 12oz, but its bottom-heavy nature – designed to suit players with a front-foot dominance – means that it's a bat built for a very specific type of batter

The consensus around the Prophecy Omen was simply that it was too heavy to properly enjoy for any length of time.

It only comes in at 2lb 12oz, but its bottom-heavy nature – designed to suit players with a front-foot dominance – means that it's a bat built for a very specific type of batter.

"It's just so heavy," laughed Nick. "It feels like they've just cut a log off the tree – I didn't love the pickup.

"Honestly, it got heavier with every ball. That said, it played pretty well. It's more than just a middle – it was pretty forgiving and overall I have to say I enjoyed it."

A bat for a player on a low pitch, you'd have to say.

"An absolute monster of a bat," added James. "It went miles in the air – and I usually can't hit the ball! That just reiterates what a monster it is, even if it doesn't look that nice… but that's only cosmetic."

Georgia Adams – the Southern Vipers batter – admitted that she also struggled with the weight, as did tester Will.

But he – as was the general theme – paid tribute to an "explosive middle".

Not for everyone, but the ideal bat for a particular sort of club cricketer.
