Bat review: Gunn & Moore Kyros DXM Signature

Although the Kyros Signature weighs in at 2lb 11oz, the edges are just 34mm thick, and the toe not as big as you’d expect from a modern blade

RRP: £190, Weight: 2lb 11oz, Edges: 34mm

This feels like an unusual offering from Gunn & Moore, the Nottingham batmakers who have cornered the market in stylish, blocky design and solid performance.

For a GM blade, the stickers on the Kyros DXM Signature are unusually white and clear – and quite stylish.

This is one of the cheapest bats in our selection, which can be presumably explained through a shortfall in wood and in pressing. Although the Kyros Signature weighs in at 2lb 11oz, the edges are just 34mm thick, and the toe not as big as you’d expect from a modern blade.

Perhaps as you’d expect from a sub-£200 bat, it didn’t appear to have the biggest middle – offering “donuts” if you don’t manage to find it, in the words of our tester - and Southern Vipers captain - Georgia Adams.

This explains the rating of just 5.2 in the all-important performance category – the lowest marking of all our bats this year.

The grip gets a bit bigger as it goes down the handle, which also divided opinion, and might make present issues for the top-handed nickers and nudgers among us.

The pick-up and weight went down relatively well. Tester Guy was impressed, praising “the nice pick-up and decent balance”.

In the end, it was Georgia’s analogy which stuck longest in the mind, though, especially on the eve of an F1 season which won’t feature one of the world’s most popular drivers: “Daniel Ricciardo might look great but he never wins.”

Initial impression: 6.6

Build quality: 5.8

Pick-up/feel: 6.2
