The uncapped spinner is in line for his debut in Sydney and could be retained for the tour of Bangladesh
Australia have enlisted spinner Mitchell Swepson for the third Test against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The uncapped 26-year-old toured India in early 2017 but has been recalled ahead of the Tests against Bangladesh scheduled for early 2020.
Swepson has taken 12 wickets at 26.58 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this season.
His only ever international outing for Australia came in a T20 in June 2018 against England at Edgbaston.
Though the hosts prevailed by 28 runs, Swepson finished with figures of 2-37 from his four overs, dismissing Joe Buttler and Eoin Morgan along the way.
Nathan Lyon is not expected to be replaced for the third Test but Swepson's call-up allows him the opportunity to work with the squad ahead of the tour of Bangladesh, where they are likely to go with two spinners.
