Australia will be without their powerful opening batsman for the game against New Zealand in Sydney on Saturday, with D'Arcy Short set to make his international debut
Australia will be without Aaron Finch against New Zealand
Aaron Finch's ongoing hamstring problem is set to rule him out of the first game in the T20 Tri Series involving Australia, New Zealand and England.
Finch, who missed the final two one-day internationals against England last month because of the issue, is not fit to face the Kiwis in Sydney according to Aussie captain David Warner.
While the skipper did not confirm Australia's side for the match at the SCG, he did rule out his opening partner.
"He didn’t feel like he was up," Warner said.
"He went through some run throughs yesterday with the medical staff, he said he sort of felt it a little bit. We didn’t want to risk him going into this tri-series with this first game. He's going to be on ice definitely."
D'Arcy Short could make his international debut in place of Finch at the top of the Australian order.
Short, the top scorer in this season's Big Bash, is in competition with Brisbane Heat hitter Chris Lynn for the position.
Australia squad: David Warner (c), Aaron Finch (vc), Ashton Agar, Alex Carey, Ben Dwarshuis, Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Glenn Maxwell, Kane Richardson, D'Arcy Short, Billy Stanlake, Marcus Stoinis, Andrew Tye, Adam Zampa.
