A group of fans were ejected from the Melbourne Cricket Ground for racist chanting on the third day of the third Test between Australia and India.

Shouts of "show us your visa" were heard coming from Bay 13 of the MCG's Great Southern Stand throughout the first two days of the match.

Footage of the chants was given to Cricket Australia by ESPNCricinfo, with CA then alerting Victorian police and the stadium's management.

CA issued a formal warning that if the chanting continued the entire bay would be ejected. Close supervision of the bay on the third day led to several fans being removed.

A CA spokesperson said: "Cricket Australia takes a zero tolerance stance against any form of abuse or racial vilification at any of our matches, whether it be towards fans, players, or staff. Fans are able to report this to stadium staff or security.

"Victoria Police and MCG stadium security monitored the behaviour of the crowd in a section of the stadium today and evicted several fans for inappropriate behaviour. They will continue to monitor the area for remaining days of the Test."

This is not the first crowd controversy from this Test, with the Victorian crowd booing Western Australia's Mitchell Marsh for taking local boy Peter Handscomb's place in the side.
