Glenn Maxwell has described David Warner's form as "a different league" in the build-up to the World Cup.

Maxwell is in the middle of a stint in county cricket with Lancashire and opted not to be available for the Indian Premier League, where Warner has been enjoying a purple patch with the bat.

The 32-year-old has made 574 runs from 10 innings for Sunrisers Hyderabad in this year's competition and Maxwell is excited to see that form transferred into the one-day international arena ahead of the World Cup in England.

"David Warner is batting in a different league at the moment," Maxwell told SEN.

"He's been absolutely phenomenal, some of the shots he's been playing.

"If he can keep that form going into the World Cup then Australia are going to be in a really good position.

"With him, Finchy (captain Aaron Finch) and (Usman) Khawaja as our probable top three, it's going to be an exciting tournament."

Warner and Steve Smith have both been included in the Aussies' 15-man squad for the tournament, which is due to get under way on May 30, and Maxwell says the national team are happy to have the pair back after their year-long bans for ball-tampering.

"If you look at the way they are playing over in India at the moment they'll welcome them back with open arms," he said.

"They've been outstanding over there.

"Not just their batting but their leadership skills … their cricket knowledge is going to be really helpful for Finchy."
