Australia are sweating over the fitness of David Warner for the start of the India Test series after the opener was ruled out of the remaining white-ball matches of the tour with a groin problem.

The 34-year-old picked up the problem while fielding during the second one-day international at the Sydney Cricket Ground.

He will not feature in the final 50-over match at the Manuka Oval on Wednesday (December 2) or the three T20 internationals on December 4, 6 and 8.

D'Arcy Short has been called up for the rest of the white-ball matches as a replacement.

Warner has 18 days to get himself fit for the first Test in Adelaide starting on December 17.

Pat Cummins will also play no part in the rest of the limited-overs games, with Australia having already secured an unassailable 2-0 lead in the ODI series.

"Pat and Davey are critical to our plans for the Test Series," said head coach Justin Langer.

"Davey will work through his injury rehab and in Pat's case it is important all of our players are managed well to keep them mentally and physically fit throughout what is a challenging summer.

"The priority for both is being fully prepared for one of the biggest and most important home Test Series we have played in recent years, especially with World Test Championship points up for grabs."
