Former Australia head coach Darren Lehmann will have heart bypass surgery after falling ill on Wednesday.
Lehmann was celebrating his 50th birthday while watching his son, Jake, captain a Cricket Australia XI in a 50-over game against England Lions when he experienced chest pains.
The Brisbane Heat coach, who played 27 Tests during his own playing career, will undergo the operation in Brisbane on Saturday.
“I would like to thank everyone in the Australian cricket family for their concern,” he said.
“I am receiving the best of medical care and am confident I'll be back on my feet soon.”
Lehmann, who also won two World Cups during his time as a player, was appointed in 2019 to lead Northern Superchargers, the Headingley-based team in The Hundred; he played as an overseas player for Yorkshire between 1997 and 2006.
