Australia and New Zealand will both be a bowler down for the remainder of the Perth Test, following an earlier injury to Blackcaps debutant Lockie Ferguson
Josh Hazlewood will play no further part with the ball in Australia's opening Test match against New Zealand, Cricket Australia has said.
Hazlewood came off the field yesterday after pulling up during his run-up just eight deliveries in New Zealand's first innings, and overnight scans have confirmed that a hamstring strain was at fault.
"It's a low grade hammy tear. I’m no doctor but I think [recovery will be] a couple of weeks," Hazlewood told 7Cricket.
"It's pretty loose so we'll take it as it comes and monitor over the next week or two and hopefully progresses nice and quickly and can get back nice and fast."
While no timeframe has yet been put in place for a recovery, the seamer is expected to miss at least the next Test match in Melbourne, with Michael Neser acting as Australia's substitute fielder on the start of the third day and in line for his first Test cap come Boxing Day.
Hazlewood joins New Zealand's Lockie Ferguson on the sidelines in Perth after the Blackcaps quick marked his Test debut by picking up a calf strain after 11 overs of the opening day.
However, both players are set to bat if and when required during the remainder of the pink-ball Test.
