The 37-year-old bowled four overs in the first Test at Edgbaston before tearing a calf muscle, and after further injury complaints while playing for Lancashire second XI the Somerset seamer has now been called up in his place
England seamer James Anderson has been ruled out for the remainder of the Ashes series, with Somerset seamer Craig Overton added to the squad in his place.
The 37-year-old bowled just four overs in the first Ashes Test at Edgbaston before tearing a calf muscle, which consequently saw him miss the draw at Lord's and the win at Headingley.
Anderson bowled a further nine overs for Lancashire against Durham in a second XI fixture on Thursday but will now not be considered for the rest of the Ashes after feeling pain in his right calf from the 20 overs he bowled on Tuesday.
Overton, 25, last played for England's Test side in March 2018 against New Zealand in Auckland, but he is rather famously known for dismissing Steve Smith during Australia's first innings at Adelaide on his way to figures of 3-105 during the 2017/18 Ashes series Down Under.
The Somerset seamer has taken 32 wickets at an average of 21.34 in eight County Championship matches this season and has now been included in an otherwise unchanged 13-man squad from the victory in Leeds.

It is surprising to note Burns,Roy and Denly retained when all 3 are susceptible to bouncers. It is one Test too late, particularly as Ashes are at stake and England cannot afford to lose while Australia can always retain after drawing the series. Time Curran is given a chance as Woakes seems tired and Root is not being helpful. County Cricket performances do not seem to be recognised. Nandan.
