Stuart Broad and Jack Leach took four wickets each as England ensured there was a first Ashes series draw since 1972
England secured a 135-run win at The Oval to level the series 2-2, a first Ashes series draw for the first time since 1972.
Stuart Broad and Jack Leach took four wickets each as England bowled the Australians out for 263.
Matthew Wade scored a second century of the series but his career best 117 went in vain as his side fell well short in their attempt to chase down 399 for victory.
Broad took the wickets of openers Marcus Harris and David Warner, the seventh time the England fast bowler took the latter's wicket in the series.
Spinner Leach was soon into the action as Marnus Labuschagne was stumped, but the key wicket of Steve Smith came when Broad had him caught at leg gully by Ben Stokes.
Joe Root joined Leach as another spinner to take advantage of the conditions to take the other two wickets, and after another Broad burst, two consecutive wickets saw England win and claim a draw.
However, the result at Old Trafford ensured Australis retained the urn despite the result at The Oval.
But there was to be no repeat of 2001, the last time Australia won a series on English soil.
