England docked 19 World Test Championship points for slow over-rates during Ashes

Australia have been docked 10 points – all of which relate to the fourth Test at Old Trafford – following the five-match series

England have been docked 19 points in the World Test Championship for slow over-rate offences during the 2023 Men's Ashes.

Opponents Australia, the reigning World Test champions, have been docked 10 points.

Under new ICC rules, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time while teams are docked one World Test Championship point for each over they are short.

Player fines are capped at 50 per cent of their match fee while no over-rate penalties are imposed if a team bowls the opposition out inside 80 overs, or twice within 160 overs.

England were deemed to be five overs short during the fifth Test at the Kia Oval, resulting in five penalty points and a 25 per cent fine.

For being nine overs short in the second Test at Lord's, England received nine penalty points and a 45 per cent fine, while three penalty points and a 15 per cent fine have been imposed for offences during the fourth Test at Old Trafford.

England had initially been fined 40 per cent of their match fee and awarded a two-point penalty after being two overs short at Edgbaston, but under the new rules the fine has been reduced to 10 per cent. 

As for Australia, Pat Cummins' side were deemed to be 10 overs short during the fourth Test and have been docked 10 points and fined 50 per cent of their match fee.

Following the points deductions, England sit fifth in the World Test Championship standings, with nine points, while Australia are third with 18 points. Pakistan (24 points) currently occupy top spot.
