David Warner is expected to be fit to face England in the second Ashes Test following a brief injury scare.

Warner sustained bruised ribs during thea first-Test win at the Gabba last week, having been struck by a rising Ben Stokes delivery during his first-innings 94.

He did not open the batting in the second innings, with Alex Carey partnering Travis Head, sparking fears that the next match of the series - which is due to begin in Adelaide on Thursday - would come around too quickly.

However, Warner is on course to return to the top of the order for the day-night match at the Adelaide Oval, and he trained with the rest of the squad on Tuesday - albeit in some discomfort, according to local reports.

Travis Head, his Australia teammate, told reporters: "Obviously he’s a little bit sore. We didn’t take any risks with him.

"He was going to bat, but in the end our bowlers did a fantastic job to give him a day off.

"I think for him it's just rest. I think he's ready to go, so no issues with David."

Warner flew to South Australia with Head and Carey ahead of his teammates to spend time with his family.

The 35-year-old had been apart from his wife Candice and their three children for more than three months owing to his time at the Indian Premier League and T20 World Cup.

Meanwhile, Warner underwent cupping therapy this week in an effort to ramp up his recovery.

The batsman posted a picture to his Instagram account of his back following the treatment, with the caption "stressed".
