Australia have taken an unassailable in the Ashes – but a fierce contest is still likely to be on the cards at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.

But what does history tell us about how this traditional Boxing Day Test will play out.

We've teamed up with Betfair to give you all the stats you need to know for each day of the series.

In the past 20 MCG Tests, the winning captain has opted to bat first on 13 occasions.

This is no guarantee of success, though, with teams who have batted first triumphing on only nine occasions. Sides bowling first have also won nine matches during that timeframe.

In their last five outings here, England have won one and drawn one, losing three.
