After bowling Australia out for 303, England were skittled for 188. At the start of day three, Australia lead by 152 runs with seven wickets in hand
Sam Billings is confident of avoiding defeat on his Test debut despite England trailing by 152 runs at the start of day three.
After bowling Australia out for 303 in the first session on day two, England were skittled for 188 in 47.4 overs. Chris Woakes top-scored with 36 while Billings posted a handy 29. However, several players, including Rory Burns (runout by Zak Crawley), Dawid Malan and Ollie Pope gifted wickets to Australia.
Thanks to their bowlers, England did end day two with a slight spring in their step after removing David Warner, Marnus Labuschagne and Usman Khawaja in 19 overs as Australia closed on 37 for 3.
"I think all results are still possible," Billings said, speaking to BT Sport, "We have to cut out those bad sessions and take it to a manageable total for us as a batting unit.

"There is a huge opportunity to get a result out of this game. The first session [on day three] is going to be huge and set the tone for the rest of the match. You have to look at those big moments and really grasp them."
As well as chipping in with the bat, Billings had a hand in two of the three wickets to fall in the final session in Hobart, taking two catches to dismiss Labuschagne (bowled Woakes) and Khawaja (bowled Mark Wood), and confessed he is absolutely loving his first experience of Test cricket.
"I really enjoyed walking out to bat. I absolutely love it," he said. "It is a challenge that a week ago I didn’t expect to be having. I expected to be in the cold back home.
"You have grown up [wanting to face] the best seam attack in the world and I saw it as a great opportunity. I just tried to be positive in everything I did."
