Virat Kohli is being rested by India

India will rest Virat Kohli during the upcoming Asia Cup.

Kohli has been nursing a back injury for much of the red-ball leg of his side's tour of England and will be allowed chance to recuperate during the two-week tournament in the UAE.

The captaincy for the competition, which is due to begin on September 15, will pass on to Rohit Sharma. Shikhar Dhawan assumes the role of vice-captain.

Given the Asia Cup campaign begins just four days after the scheduled final day of the current Test series, a break for Kohli makes sense.

India have called up Manish Pandey as well as Ambati Rayudu and Kedar Jadhav, while Umesh Yadav, Suresh Raina and Siddarth Kaul drop out of the squad which took part in the 50-over series against England earlier this summer.

Twenty-year-old left-arm seamer Khaleel Ahmed gets a first summons.

INDIA SQUAD
Rohit Sharma (c), Shikhar Dhawan (vc), KL Rahul, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, Kedar Jadhav, MS Dhoni (wk), Dinesh Karthk, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Kuldeep Yadav, Yuzvendra Chahal, Axar Patel, Shardul Thakur, Khaleel Ahmed, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah
