The Australia seamer has a back problem and will not be available for the remaining eight matches of the Indian Premier League
Royal Challengers Bangalore have acquired South Africa's Dale Steyn to replace injured bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile.
The Australian seamer was due to join up with the Indian Premier League franchise for the final eight matches of the round robin phase.
But having returned to his homeland after the one-day series against Pakistan, the 31-year-old has been ruled out entirely.
Steyn has not played in the IPL for two years but will join-up with RCB from April 16.
He will, however, miss the upcoming matches against Kings XI Punjab and Mumbai Indians and only be available for the final six games.
The 35-year-old, unsold during the regular auction, played for RCB between 2008 and 2010 and has also had spells at Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Lions.
In 199 non-international T20s, Steyn has taken 227 wickets at 21.72.
Virat Kohli's men have meanwhile struggled during the 2019 edition of the IPL, losing all six of their games which leaves them bottom of the table.
