The idea behind the occasion, which will centre on a packed schedule of Women’s T20 Cup matches, is to encourage cricket fans throughout England to attend their nearest fixtures on the Bank Holiday Monday
A second edition of the Women’s County Cricket Day, established in 2019 to promote the women’s county game, will take place on May 3.
The idea behind the occasion, which will centre on a packed schedule of Women’s T20 Cup matches, is to encourage cricket fans throughout England to attend their nearest fixtures on the Bank Holiday Monday.
Many of the new women’s professional players, including Sussex’s Georgia Adams, Lancashire’s Alex Hartley and Somerset’s Sophie Luff, are likely to feature ahead of a busy summer, including the inaugural iteration of The Hundred and the full introduction of the regional domestic structure.
Keeping the flag flying: Women's county cricket lives on
Former England player and Surrey director of women’s cricket Ebony Rainford-Brent said: “Our Surrey players loved being part of Women’s County Cricket Day in 2019 and seeing all the local fans get along to their match against Lancashire.
“It’s so important to raise awareness of women’s county cricket - it’s where we’ll find the England and regional stars of the future.
“I’d encourage cricket followers to take this great opportunity to get out there and support their county.”
The campaign can be followed on Twitter via the @WomensCricDay account, using the hashtag #YourCounty.
