Surrey have signed left-arm spinner Daniel Moriarty on a two-year deal.
The 20-year-old played four games for the county’s second team in August and September, impressing enough to earn a professional contract with the club. He took 12 wickets in that time, including a six-wicket haul against Yorkshire.
Born in Reigate, Moriarty has played for South Africa at Under-19 level, playing a Test and an ODI. He also played for MCC Young Cricketers against Surrey in May.
Moriarty said: “I’m very proud and honoured to have been offered a contract with one of the most prestigious counties in the game.
“I really enjoyed my time with the second eleven earlier this year and I’m now looking forward to getting stuck in at The Kia Oval and pushing for a place in the first team throughout the next two seasons.”
Director of cricket Alec Stewart added: “I’m pleased to have secured Dan on a two-year deal with Surrey. Following promising performances with the MCC Young Cricketers and our second eleven this summer, he has shown enough potential to earn this contract with the club.”
