Jimmy Anderson will be rested for the third and final Test between England and Sri Lanka.

England's record wicket-taker has confirmed that he will drop out of the side for the game in Colombo, which is due to get under way on Friday.

With the series already won, Broad will be replaced by his long-time strike partner Broad, who has yet to feature on the tour.

"I understand the reasoning behind it with the series already won," Anderson said.

Stuart Broad replaces Jimmy Anderson in England's Test team this week

"With the winter we've got ahead, it makes sense for Stuart to get some cricket. He's not played for a while and it's going to be a tough tour of the West Indies.

"It's a good opportunity for him and the team. You have to look at the situation as well - it's hard work for seamers here and it's not like I've been able to have a huge input on the games."

England have also made a second change to their XI, with Sam Curran still dealing with the effects of a side strain sustained during the second Test in Kandy.

The Surrey allrounder has been training alone after undergoing scans on the problem area and is not fit to play, his place will be filled by batsman Jonny Bairstow.
