Steve Smith and David Warner have returned to Cricket Australia's central contract list following their year-long suspensions for ball-tampering.

The former national captain and vice-captain, who have both been included in the Aussies' World Cup squad, make the cut along with fast bowler James Pattinson, who is expected to play a prominent role in the Ashes later this summer.

Mitchell Marsh has been dropped from the centrally contracted group, despite having spent a brief time as the Test vice-captain in 2018.

There is no place for Peter Siddle, Marnus Labuschagne, Kurtis Patterson or Joe Burns.

Ashton Agar, Billy Stanlake, Kane Richardson and Andrew Tye have lost their contracts, while Nathan Coulter-Nile, Marcus Harris and Adam Zampa are promoted into the setup.

"We believe the 2019-20 contract list provides us with a versatile group of players who can represent Australia across all three formats over the contract period," chairman of selectors Trevor Hohns said.

"Our key criteria focused on selecting a pool of players who are going to help us in our ambition to win the upcoming World Cup and Ashes series in England, and who can also play the various formats over the course of the Australian summer."

2019-2020 CA contracts: Pat Cummins, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Alex Carey, Aaron Finch, Usman Khawaja, Peter Handscomb, Marcus Harris, Travis Head, Josh Hazlewood, Nathan Lyon, Glenn Maxwell, Shaun Marsh, Tim Paine, James Pattinson, Jhye Richardson, Steve Smith, Mitchell Starc, Marcus Stoinis, David Warner, Adam Zampa
