South Africa are hopeful opening batmsan Hashim Amla will be fit for their match against India after being rested as a precaution against Bangladesh today.

The 36-year-old was hit on the head from a bouncer by England's Jofra Archer on Thursday at the Oval and had to go off the field for treatment before returning to the middle.

Amla did not make a satisfactory recovery in time for today's match against Bangladesh at the same ground, but the Proteas are hopeful he will make a return against India.

Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee said: "Hashim hasn’t fully recovered from the blow sustained to the helmet during the match against England on Thursday and is not available for selection for the match today.

"With the quick turnaround between the two matches, he is being rested as a precaution, based on our post-match re-assessment. We are hopeful that he will make a full recovery to be available for selection for our next match against India."
