Former South Africa bowler Rory Kleinveldt has announced his retirement from first-class cricket.

The 35-year-old announced his decision on Twitter after taking part in the Cape Cobras six-wicket defeat to the Warriors.

There was initial confusion that Kleinveldt had retired from the game completely, but he quickly clarified that it was only from red-ball cricket.

He played four Tests for his county, last playing in 2013, and took 10 wickets at an average of 42.20.

Kleinvedlt’s maiden county stint was at Hampshire in 2008, but he will be best remembered for his four-year stay at Northants.

He played 39 County Championship matches for Northants, taking just under 150 wickets for the club.

He only played three matches during the 2018 season, but still managed a good return of 14 wickets at 20.14.
