Pant delighted Indian fans with a superb century in his side's first innings in the fourth Test against Australia in Sydney this week, the latest example of his enormous talent
Ricky Ponting has compared Rishabh Pant to the great Adam Gilchrist.
The young wicketkeeper lit up last year's Indian Premier League, made a major impact in the fifth and final Test in England in September and became the first gloveman from his country to score a century in the format Down Under when he reached three figures at the SCG.
While only 21 years old, Pant is quickly establishing himself as one of the star turns in the Indian team and Ponting has paid him an enormous compliment in likening the youngster to Gilchrist - perhaps the greatest wicketkeeper-batsman of all time.
Rishabh Pant has received big praise from Ricky Ponting
"He is a real talent and an incredibly good ball striker. He has got a really good game sense as well. I have been lucky enough to coach him at Delhi (Capitals)," said Ponting.
"He has already scored his second Test ton and a couple of 90s to go with it. Look he is someone who could play a lot of Test cricket for India across formats
"He has got to do a bit of work on his keeping and he will also become a better batsman. We talk about MS Dhoni all the time and his impact on Indian cricket.
"He played a lot of Tests for India but made only six Test hundreds.
"This kid will make a lot more Test hundreds than that. We talk about him in the commentary box and he is sort of like another Adam Gilchrist."
Gilchrist finished his international career with 33 centuries across all formats.
