New father Rohit Sharma to miss India's fourth Test against Australia

The fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground begins on January 2 with India leading 2-1, but the tourists will be without Sharma who has returned to India to be with his wife and new baby daughter

Indian batsman Rohit Sharma will miss their fourth Test against Australia after flying home to be with his wife and their new baby daughter.

The fourth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground begins on January 2 with India leading 2-1, but the tourists will be without Sharma.

Sharma has scored 106 runs in four innings at an average of 35.33 during the series and India have not called up a replacement.

The middle-order batsman will return to Australia on January 8 in time for the three-match ODI series which begins on January 12.

“India batsman Rohit Sharma left for Mumbai on 30 December to attend to his wife who has delivered a baby girl. The BCCI congratulates Rohit on the beginning of a new chapter in his life,” the BCCI said in a statement.

Should India win the fourth Test, they will claim their first ever away series victory in Australia.
