Cricbuzz reported on Sunday that former South Africa superstar AB de Villiers has signed a deal with the London club with an official announcement due this week.

Middlesex finished rock bottom of the South Group in 2018 - with just two wins from 14 matches - and will be hoping de Villiers can transform their fortunes.

The innovative batsman is currently representing Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League, where he has scored 138 runs at 46.00, including one half-century.

The 35-year-old - who retired from international cricket last year - will continue his T20 travels when he joins Royal Challengers Bangalore in the upcoming Indian Premier League.

De Villiers has played 272 T20 matches in his career to date, accumulating 7,316 runs and hitting four centuries along the way.
