Pakistan coach Mickey Arthur believes his side will respond after their "shocking" opening game against West Indies.

The Champions Trophy holders recorded their second-lowest World Cup total when they were bundled out for just 105 at Trent Bridge on Friday by Jason Holder's men in a mere 21.4 overs.

The West Indies then took just 13.4 overs to reach the target, largely thanks to a 34-ball fifty from opener Chris Gayle, but while Arthur admits the margin of defeat was susbtantial he believes the performance went against the grain of preparations.

"Yes, it was a shocking start - the players did not take the preparations into the the middle," Arthur told AFP.

"But we will dust ourselves off and come back strong.

"We knew that we were going to get short-pitched bowling and had prepared very well for it, so it was disappointing to see us play like that because we were prepared."

Pakistan now return to Nottingham to face hosts England, the world's top-ranked ODI side who not only dispatched of South Africa in their opening game with a comfortable 104-run victory at the Oval on Thursday but also beat Arthur's side 4-0 in an ODI series leading up to the World Cup.

Nevertheless, Arthur maintains Pakistan are a better side because of that experience.

"Yes, we know how good England are but we know them and are battle-hardened against them."
