The 35-year-old is expected to re-join the team before their next game against Australia on June 15
Sri Lanka fast bowler Lasith Malinga is to leave the team temporarily after their game against Bangladesh due to the death of his mother-in-law.
The 35-year-old will depart for Colombo following the conclusion of their third World Cup game at Bristol, but the family tragedy is not expected to end his tournament.
It is believed that Malinga will be back in time for their next game in the tournament against Australia on June 15.
A Sri Lanka Cricket release announced: "Malinga will leave the team following Sri Lanka’s World Cup game against Bangladesh, which will be played today, as his mother-in-law has passed away."

He is expected to join the team, before the team’s next #CWC19 game, which will be played against Australia on 15th.
Malinga has been a crucial part of the Sri Lanka side so far this tournament, with his spell of 3 for 39 against Afghanistan helping them to defend a modest total of 201 in a rain-affected game in Cardiff.
Dimuth Karunaratne's side are currently placed sixth on the table, with three points.
The board also confirmed the funeral would take place on Thursday.
