The much-delayed Lanka Premier League is set to return for a second edition from December 4.

After the inaugural edition suffered numerous delays, centrally due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year's competition has a third different start date.

Having previously been moved from July 30-August 22 and November 19-December 12, a new date has been proposed by Sri Lanka Cricket.

It is now hoped the five-team tournament can return in the last month of the year, with the final scheduled for December 23.

The unavailability of overseas players and uncertainty over which teams will compete had caused the competition to be delayed from the summer.

Foreign players can declare their interest in being part of the draft from September 24, with the deadline being October 5.

Franchises can put together 20-strong squads with a maximum of six overseas stars.

Starting 20 days after the men's T20 World Cup final, the tournament will clash with Australia's Big Bash League which begins on December 5 and runs until January 28.

Jaffna Stallions are the defending champions from the first edition after beating Galle Gladiators in the final.
